At some point in my pre-parenting days, I said in a very smug tone, “I won’t try to control the music my kids listen to. If they want to go to a concert, I’ll take them.”

Yeah! Right on! Seemed sensible at the time…

Which is how I ended up at the Fall Out Boy, Hawthorn Heights, and All American Rejects concert with five 14 year old girls last night.

What can I say, I went back and forth between feeling 1000 years old, trying to remember if back in the day the bands I loved alternated every word with the F word, wondering if someone would die in a crowd surfing accident, and realizing there was a reason that the other Moms were smiling when I agreed to chaperone the girls.

Brendan:

Mom, I’ve learned some things in life. One, never trust a clown and two, don’t touch knives. Good advice at any age don’t you think?

Brendan wondered today:
Mom, was Dad born before 1854?
