Just so that it is recorded somewhere . . .
There is a long explanation of the name Memo, which is what we call William. I am explaining it here for the record because I tend to forget things.
William’s legal name right now is Nicolas. When we adopted him, there were a lot of waiting boys. Because our first son, who died at 27 weeks, was named Nicholas, we took that as a sign that Nicolas was The One.
But, since we already have a son named Nicholas, we decided that when he got home, we would change his name to William Nicolas. Of course that requires more paperwork and of course I haven’t done it.
So, legally he is still Nicolas, but he will be William someday. The Spanish name for William is Guillermo. The nickname for Guillermo would be Memo or Memito, and we have always called William by Memo.
Try explaining this to one of his Drs, when the medical card says Nicolas, but he’s really William, but we call him Memo. . . well you get the idea.
So far, Memo hasn’t proven to be too problematic for anyone except for one therapist who called him Nemo for the whole evaluation.
